Your gift will help a hungry Cambodian family put food on their table... |
|
Dear Friend, Right now, thousands of families in rural Cambodia are living on the edge of survival. The situation is desperate. In the coming weeks some of these families will feel even more helpless as they say a tearful and final goodbye to loved ones taken by hunger or disease. Imagine, for a moment, that you're sitting at the supper table for the evening meal. You look at your loved ones and the empty plates in front and utter the words no parent would ever want to say: "I'm sorry children, we have nothing to eat tonight, at least nothing worth eating." The best you can do for tonight's meal is to serve boiled roots, mashed leaves, and a few dirty vegetable scraps you found on the ground at the local market. Nothing of any nutritional value, but at least the pain of chronic hunger will subside for a few hours.
We will rush a "Garden of Hope" care package to a needy Cambodian family as soon as your gift arrives. The care package you are giving contains a variety of vegetable seeds, as well as an armful of sturdy gardening tools that will be used to create a vegetable garden and harvest the bounty of the garden - nutritious, life-saving vegetables! Your generosity will also ensure that the family you help today will receive health education and instruction on how to make homemade fertilizers that will enrich and nurture their "Garden of Hope" for years to come. Friend, I'm sure you'd agree with me when I say that no mother or child should have to scavenge, on their hands and knees, for a few scraps of food for a meager meal. Especially when you and I have the means to transform their lives through our giving. Your gift will put an end to the daily scavenging. Our experience with our "Garden of Hope" care packages has shown us that the family's new garden will often produce more vegetables than one family can eat or store. Families take the extra vegetables to the local market and sell them for much needed income. It is also heartwarming to know that many families choose to share their harvest with others who are even less fortunate than they are - what a wonderful testimony to the character of these families! Friend, you have the opportunity to end the suffering these families face every day. Your gift of $40 will give a family everything they need to grow their own food, for today and for years to come. God bless you for helping families grow enough food to feed themselves and become self-reliant! God bless you as you give,
David S. McKenzie, |
