Displaced families in southern Sudan
are in urgent need of emergency care packages.

The urgent plight of 1,200 innocent families in southern Sudan who fled their villages when raiders began looting, maiming and killing, is of great concern as we enter the first month 2010.

Families in the Twic and Duk counties of southern Sudan had only moments to decide whether to flee or hide as raiders entered the outskirts of their villages.

Running for their lives, they left everything behind… the few meager household items they possessed, their entire food supply, the agricultural tools they depend on to grow food, and even the crops in the fields that were ready for harvest.

Having escaped the violence and found refuge away from the conflict, you would think they would be safe. But nothing could be further from the truth. A new, equally deadly force is stalking these families today – starvation.

We must not allow these families to perish… not after all they have been through… not after the incredible sacrifices they have made just to survive… not after burying loved ones and friends wounded or killed by the raiders.

These families are small-scale farm families whose very existence is dependant on being able to grow and harvest crops... they have no food... they have no tools.

We need your help in order to prepare and send emergency care packages to these desperate families right away.

Each emergency care package costs $120 and contains the following life-saving items:

• Nutritious food, such as beans, cooking oil, salt, and sorghum. Enough to feed a family until they can grow and harvest their own crops again
• Basic household items, such as kitchen utensils, plates, cups, and saucepans
• Shelter materials, bedding, and mosquito nets needed to protect family members from disease-carrying mosquitoes and insects
• Hand tools that are needed to till the soil, and grow and harvest grain crops that will give a family the ability to feed themselves and regain their self-reliance
