Giving families a way to grow a sustainable food supply.

Families in the Pursat region of Cambodia are eating roots, mashed leaves, and scraps of decaying food scavenged from local markets - they have no other choice if they are to survive another day.

It is absolutely heart breaking to watch children eat boiled roots, tree leaves, and someone else’s garbage, but the alternative is even worse - watching children slowly fade away from starvation.

These families are so poor they cannot afford to buy even the simple garden tools, a small bag of fertilizer, or a few packets of vegetable seeds.

A gift of $45 will give one hungry family everything they need in order to grow their own food for years to come.

A huge variety of nutritious vegetable seeds, like vitamin-rich carrot seeds.
An armful of sturdy gardening tools, including the shovels and spades a family will need in order to till the soil, plant the seeds, and harvest a bountiful crop of vegetables throughout the year.

Health education that ensures they learn about nutrition, sanitation, and other effective ways to restore and protect their health. Health education is especially important for the children, many of whom suffer from diseases that are completely preventable with a bit of knowledge.
Training on how to make homemade fertilizers that will protect and nurture the soil in their new vegetable garden plots, ensuring that food production is done in a sustainable manner.

Families who have previously received a Garden of Hope Care Package tell us that their gardens often produce more vegetables than they can eat or store. The extra vegetables are sold at local markets, generating much needed income that gives families the money they need to purchase the necessities of life, and in many cases, send their children to school.

Families also share their harvest with other families in their village who have not been so fortunate as to receive a Garden of Hope Care Package.
