Saving lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). 

Barely able to survive prior to the worldwide financial downturn, life for the world’s poorest families has gone from terrible to tragic.

Families in the Democratic Republic of Congo are in a desperate struggle for survival. The outcome of which is most certainly heartache and death unless you choose to help.

Many will eat yet another meal of manioc leaves and roots, washed down with dirty water, in order to fill their aching stomachs.  Buying food is out of the question given the extraordinary cost and the fact that they have no income whatsoever.

You and I know that there is little or no nutritional value in what they are eating. They know this as well… they can feel themselves growing weaker by the day. They can see that their children are slowing starving and wasting away.

Our past efforts, made possible by the generosity of caring people just like you, have resulted in thousands upon thousands of families becoming self-reliant. Thankfully, these families will be able to survive while the world digs its way out of the current financial crisis.

Sadly, the families I’m telling you about today will not survive.

While the world digs itself out of a financial hole, many of these families will be digging holes in which to bury their children and other loved ones. I know that this is putting it bluntly, but it reflects just how desperate their situation is right now.

Friend, we all hope and pray that we will make it through the current economic downturn and that recovery comes soon.

Yet as I consider our circumstances here in the developed world, my knowledge of the pain these families are facing compels me to ask and pray that even in our situation, we would be able to part with a modest amount of money in order to ensure that families far less fortunate than ours survive.
