Clean water, education and self-help groups transforming life for the families of Pursat, Cambodia.
As our hearts continue to go out to the people of Haiti, we know that families living in impoverished places in other parts of the world – like the villages of rural Cambodia – also feel the devastating and deadly impact of poverty every hour of every day.
The immediate impact may appear to be less dramatic than in a place like Haiti, but the outcome remains equally grim and deadly for families caught in poverty’s grasp in Cambodia.
You won’t find cameras or reporters swarming through rural Cambodia, but you will find heart wrenching stories of families locked in a life and death struggle to survive.
You will see children drinking water gathered from a filthy ditch or pond contaminated with killer diseases and animal feces. You will walk by the modest graves where children lost to poverty lie at rest after a short life of suffering.
You will see families eating roots and rice soup, both of which have little or no nutritional value, but do serve to stave off the hunger pangs.
You will have your heart broken as you wonder what the disheveled children running by could become if only they could receive an education.
You will hear the story of a young girl who cannot recall the names of siblings and young friends who have died of preventable diseases – too many have died and she simply cannot bear to remember.
A gift of $60, $80, $100 or more if you can in order will help save a family from the inevitable outcome of poverty – suffering and death.
- Clean water will fill the cups of families whose only source of drinking water right now is a filthy ditch or pond.
- Children will have the opportunity to go to school and learn their way out of poverty.
- Mothers will gather in self-help groups and learn ways to protect the health of their families and earn a sustainable income that will give them the ability, for the first time in their lives, to buy the necessities their families so desperately need.
- Families will learn new ways to grow food, enabling them to harvest crops more than just once per year.
Please, help the children and families of Pursat today.
